Depending on the path of the winter storm, our entire property is susceptible to winter weather. During snow and ice storms, there is an increase in auto claims, usually as a result of slippery roads and the lack of driving experience in these adverse conditions.
Winter Storms Warning
If you have to be out in these conditions, here are some suggestions to lessen the risk of an accident. Reduce your speed, make sure your windows are defrosted for clearer visibility, allow for greater stopping distances, don’t slam on your brakes, apply brakes slowly or pump the brake pedal, and allow extra travel time.
On the property side, trees and tree limbs can cause problems. Winter storms bring windy conditions and the weight of snow and ice can cause trees to fall or limbs to break off, damaging vehicles and property. A way to avoid claims of this type is to monitor trees that are close to structures, driveways and garages. Sometimes it is as simple as pruning overhanging limbs. Other times, you might need to cut down some trees. There could be some costs involved, but in the long run that might be better than suffering extensive damage to your property and having to file an insurance claim.
