Rowan County
Above: The Rowan County Cooperative Extension and Chamber of Commerce, along with sponsors Carolina Farm Credit and Farm Bureau, held a farmer appreciation breakfast on March 31. More than 78 farmers and their families from across Rowan County came to Salem Lutheran Church for a breakfast that featured local products. Piedmont Research Station donated the eggs, Patterson Farms donated the jellies, Cauble Creek Vineyards donated the grape juice and Open Season Foods donated the sweet potato butter. The rest of the food was either grown locally or from North Carolina producers. Also in attendance was guest speaker Dr. Richard C. Reich, who serves as the assistant commissioner of agriculture for the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Rowan County Farm Bureau and the Rowan County Cooperative Extension services, along with the Chamber of Commerce, sponsored an educational breakfast for local farmers on March 13. Dr. Richard Reich from the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services spoke at the event, which was attended by about 75 people. “This event went over so well it will become an annual event,” says Darrell Blackwelder, extension director. “We look forward to it again next year!” Farm Bureau, Extension and the business community of Rowan County appreciate farmers and know they couldn’t live without them.
