Randolph County
Randolph County Farm Bureau hosted a showing of the agriculture documentary Farmland produced by award-winning director James Moll on Monday evening, October 20 at the historic Sunset Theatre in downtown Asheboro. More than 75 attended the event, including agriculture producers, educators, elected officials and other county residents. The movie follows six young farmers and ranchers and their struggles to produce the world’s food supply. County president Richard Whitaker shared with the group about the importance of agriculture to Randolph County, which is the No. 1 industry in the county. Prior to the featured movie, they showed a video called Farm to Table: Agriculture in Randolph County, which showcases a cross section of commodities produced in Randolph County. Producers of this video followed the activities on county farms for approximately nine months, capturing the aspects of field crops, poultry, dairy, equine, cattle, ornamental plants, vegetables, fruit and tobacco. This Randolph County agriculture DVD is used as part of the curriculum in all fourth-grade classes in Randolph County Schools.
