Macon County

Macon County Farm Bureau, the Macon County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee, Jackson and Swain County Farm Bureaus, Macon County Cooperative Extension and Franklin FFA sponsored a Farm Safety Field Day at the Macon County Fairgrounds in Franklin on Tuesday, April 8. The public was invited to attend, as well as agriculture classes from Macon, Jackson and Swain county high schools. There were about 120 participants in the all-day event, which focused on various aspects of farm safety, from PTO and pinch-point safety, to chainsaw and four-wheeler safety. Participants were able to witness a tractor rollover with and without a ROPS and seat belt being used. Partners included the N.C. Agromedicine Institute, the N.C. AgrAbility Partnership, the Forest Service, the Wildlife Resources Commission and Cooperative Extension. Everyone received a goody bag with items related to safety. The day was a great success.
