CABARRUS COUNTY Farm Bureau member Thomas Porter Jr. has been selected as the 2011 Swisher Sweets/Sunbelt Expo Southeastern Farmer of the Year. A successful livestock farmer, Porter raises poultry, hogs and beef cattle. The Farmer of the Year award recognizes excellence in agricultural production and management, along with leadership in community and farm organizations. The award also honors family contributions in producing safe and abundant supplies of food, fiber and shelter products for U.S. consumers.
