6 Reasons to Visit the North Carolina State Fair

Cathy Lockman |Last year marked the first time in 75 years that the North Carolina State Fair was canceled. But it’s back for 2021, and fair manager Kent Yelverton promises “it will be worth the wait.”
In fact, says Yelverton, “Worth the Wait” is the theme for the 2021 North Carolina State Fair. “The public, the vendors and the staff are all looking forward to the return of the fair,” he says. “While we were very pleased to have been able to still offer the junior livestock show and a takeout fair food event last October, everyone missed the opportunity to get together and fully celebrate agriculture. We’re excited that it will happen this year, and we’re ready to welcome everyone back to safely share the fun.”
Here are six great opportunities to learn more about agriculture and share the fun:
Century Farm Family Reunion
North Carolina has a proud heritage of family farming, and we celebrate it. Established in 1970, the North Carolina Century Farm program and designation recognizes farms in North Carolina that have been in the continuous ownership of one family for at least 100 or 200 years. With 2,000 century farms and 70 bicentennial farms in the state, the fair is the perfect place for a reunion.
“Family farms are the backbone of agriculture in North Carolina, and this is a great opportunity for them to come together, share their success and be recognized for their commitment,” Yelverton says.
