Tractor of Hope
Power of the Past Antique Tractor Club donates tractor to Holy Angels.
Rachel Stroop |Every year, the Power of the Past Antique Tractor Club, a group of volunteer enthusiasts, gives their time and tireless effort to completely rebuild and restore a donated antique tractor. While they aim to preserve farming’s historical past, the reason for the restoration goes far beyond nostalgia.
Known as the “angel tractor,” the tractor is raffled off to raise money for Holy Angels, a nonprofit organization in Belmont, that provides round-the-clock care for children and adults with mental and developmental disabilities.
The club has been engaging in this charitable act for 17 years, and since then, it has raised almost $250,000 for the organization. The money helps pay for rehab equipment, musical instruments and more for Holy Angels residents. No funds from the raffle are kept by the club, other than the cost of parts to restore the tractor itself.
This year’s tractor is a 1963 IH Cub Lowboy, and the restoration is a 100 percent volunteer effort. After attending multiple events in the fall to sell raffle tickets, the club will give the tractor away at the annual Cotton Ginning Days event in Dallas, which is set for Oct. 9-11.
