In this season of the holidays, when gatherings with loved ones who share our fondest memories, we cannot help but reflect over all that has happened this past year. As I reflect, I would like to begin by saying thank you! We at North Carolina Farm Bureau appreciate all of you, our members, for your support this year. Your membership allowed us to serve you with quality insurance products, helped us provide scholarships to deserving students and contributed to our disaster recovery efforts when Tropical Storm Fred devastated Western North Carolina.

Your membership also continues to help us tackle one of the biggest needs facing agriculture, the need to nurture and support the next generation of farmers. Your support allows us to provide them with leadership and business skills to help them be the future of North Carolina’s No. 1 industry. Thank you for your continued partnership, making us the trusted “Voice of Agriculture” and insurance in North Carolina.

The upcoming holidays and the Christmas story of promise through a new birth gives us many reasons to look forward as well as we approach 2022. A new start is ahead for all of us just around the corner, and North Carolina is poised to start a time of amazing rebirth and renewal in agriculture. The history of our state’s timber industry played a big role in North Carolina’s heritage and identity – it is responsible for the nickname “Tarheel,” after all. Today’s modern timber industry is helping meet the worldwide demand for renewable energy in a climate-smart way. North Carolina farmers are proud to be a part of that effort.
Speaking of history, North Carolina certainly had a legacy in the distilling business before it was something to speak of. Present-day distillers are helping to transform many of our local downtowns into the place to be, renewing and reviving these once thriving areas. We’ve profiled just a few of the distillers statewide that are forming partnerships with farmers to make truly local and unique spirits.

In closing, I hope you and your family can gather around a North Carolina-grown Christmas tree and celebrate a renewal this year – a renewed spirit of faith in our future, and a reminder this season that all things are made new continually. From all of us at North Carolina Farm Bureau, we wish you and your families a Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and a happy new year.
