CABARRUS COUNTY Farm Bureau President Tommy Porter and wife Vicky Porter hosted U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson Jan. 28 at Porter Farms. Hudson spoke with farmers from Anson, Cabarrus, Davidson, Montgomery, Randolph, Richmond, Robeson, Rowan, Scotland, Stanly and Union counties that week. Hudson discussed the farm bill, immigration, gun control and other issues related to farming and rural life.
CAMDEN COUNTY Farm Bureau was a sponsor recently of the N.C. Soybean Festival Poster Contest. Participating this year were 145 fourth-graders from Camden Intermediate School. The theme this year was “N.C. Soybeans: The Possibilities Are Endless.” Winners were Laney Cartwright, first place; Emily Bronson, second place; Kaitlyn Weddle, third place; and Rachel Tarkington and Conlan Talley, honorable mention.
FORSYTH COUNTY Farm Bureau hosted the annual Elected Officials Breakfast, the theme of which was “Forsyth County’s Community Food System: A Foundation to Grow.” The event was Feb. 12 at the Forsyth Agricultural Building in Winston-Salem. The event was co-hosted by the county’s Women’s Committee and Forsyth Cooperative Extension Service. Attending were 60 elected officials, Farm Bureau members and other community leaders. Presenters included Mari Krane of Forsyth Futures and Forsyth County Cooperative Extension Director Mark Tucker.
