Shaw Scholarship Winners

Twelve students across the state received the R. Flake Shaw Scholarship, North Carolina Farm Bureau’s top academic award.

Since it began in 1967, the R. Flake Shaw Scholarship Program has given almost $4 million in scholarship money to ag students.

University recipients were Olivia Hope Barnes of Bladen County; Paul Douglas Eldridge of Johnston County; Jacob Cole Forehand of Chowan County; Lawton Wesley Looper of Catawba County; Alan Dale McRae II of Anson County; Regan Haley Mitchem of Lincoln County; Benjamin Hunter Potter of Pamlico County; and Ethan Martin Renfro of Yancey County.

Community college recipients were Alyson McKinley Biddix of McDowell County; Reagan Elaine Glass of Beaufort County; Cheryl Lynn Moore of Johnston County; and Lauren Rene Smith of Chowan County.

For students attending a four-year university, the renewable scholarship is valued at $4,000 per year, totaling $16,000 over the four years for expenses including tuition, books and more. For those attending community college, the renewable scholarship is valued at $1,000 per year for two years of study, totaling $2,000. It helps pay for books, tuition and other expenses.
