NCFB Achievement Award Winner
Nick Dupree can remember riding tractors alongside his father at age 7 and knew he always wanted to take over the family farm someday. Dupree and his wife, Kimberly, formed a partnership with his father in 2008 and continue to operate and grow their family’s operation today. Dupree Farms raises sweet potatoes, soybeans, tobacco and wheat on about 3,000 acres in Angier.
Living in a small community, the Duprees advocate for agriculture every chance they get. They’re active in their local church youth group, donating sweet potatoes for an annual fundraiser and educating visitors on sweet potato production during harvest time. They also constantly seek ways to adapt to the ever-changing industry and diversify their farm while minimizing risks, including finding a market for their irregular sweet potatoes that wouldn’t meet table-market standards.
This commitment to agriculture and innovative spirit earned the Duprees this year’s N.C. Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers Achievement Award. This award recognizes outstanding achievement in farming, the local community and civic organizations, and participants must be actively engaged in farming with a majority of their income coming from production agriculture.
