The Hartness family has run the business for four generations, but a fire destroyed the original mill in 1947, prompting its move to Henderson. Today, the mill’s flour brands – Daily Bread, Hartness’s Choice and Snowflake, are sold in grocery stores throughout North Carolina and southern Virginia, as well as in bulk to restaurants and other commercial operations throughout the Southeast.
