Solving Two Issues at Once

Did you know that many small farmers don’t have the infrastructure or ability to utilize all the food they produce? About 40% of fresh and healthy crops are typically considered “excess.” This could be due to cosmetic imperfections or size. Imperfections force many farmers to let them go to waste without another profitable solution.

At the same time, about one in eight people in the United States struggle with food insecurity, not knowing where their next meal might come from.

North Carolina-based Ripe Revival Market is finding a way to solve both problems at once in its mission to “revive produce and people for purpose one fruit and vegetable at a time.”

The organization partners with North Carolina farmers to deliver weekly boxes of fresh, imperfect produce to homes across the state at a great value. For every box purchased, Ripe Revival Market also donates fresh foods or an entire box to a local family in need. Their goal is to reduce food waste and help farmers get their crops onto tables across the state. In addition, Ripe Revival provides healthy, local and affordable food to consumers while benefiting those in need. This is all in an effort to demonstrate the positive impact coming together as a community can have on everyone involved.
