English Farmstead Cheese

June 2025 update: English Farmstead Cheese is no longer in business as the owners have retired.

McDowell County Farm Bureau members Susan and Terry English are used to saying “cheese.” The couple runs English Farmstead Cheese in Marion, where they raise Holstein cows and make small-batch cheese.

The family’s cows are milked twice a day. A portion of the milk supply is brought directly from the milking barn to the cheese-making room, where it is then crafted into a variety of hard and soft cheese spreads, including buttercup, tomato basil jack and apple blossom gouda, among others.

English Farmstead Cheese products are available for purchase at the farm store, which is open on Fridays and Saturdays. Demand from July to October is often very high, so it isn’t unusual for the store to sell out. For the best selection of English Farmstead products, plan your trip for early in the day.
