Hickory NC

Hickory’s downtown district pulls out all the stops during the holiday season, from the Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting in mid-November to the Holiday Farmers Market held the Saturday before and after Thanksgiving. The lit tree remains the centerpiece of the beautifully decorated downtown throughout the holiday season.

On Dec. 11, the historic Propst House holds a Victorian Christmas Open House. Visitors can learn about holiday traditions that took place during the late 19th century, with antique postcards and children’s books of the time on display as well as Victorian era food and authentic holiday prints drawn between 1863 and 1885. In mid-December, locals and visitors gather downtown for A Hickory Holiday – this year held on Dec. 15. The annual festival features family-friendly activities, including caroling, photos with Santa and free wagon rides around Union Square.
