Pender County

Pender County Farm Bureau’s YF&R Committee met at the Food Lion in Burgaw to purchase food for Pender County Christian Services, a local community food pantry that services the less fortunate in the area. The committee purchased $500 worth of food items for the donation in October 2013, which totaled 1,600 pounds.

Polk County

Kaitlin and Connor Ledbetter of Mill Spring competed in the Junior Meat Goat Show at the North Carolina Mountain State Fair in Fletcher. Kaitlin won first place in the Junior Commercial Doe Kid Class, and Connor placed third in the Junior Wether Class at the show in September 2013.

Randolph County

The Randolph County Farm Bureau made safety its theme for the annual meeting in Asheboro in October 2013. Edsel Beck was the keynote speaker for the event. He was also a speaker at the 2013 Safety Conference in Greensboro. Beck spoke about his life before and after a tragic farming accident nearly 20 years ago. He lost both arms in the accident, one at the shoulder and one at the elbow. He reminded everyone to listen to the little voice in your head, and if it says, “Don’t do it,” then don’t do it! Nearly 200 people attended the event.
