Is there any better way to spend a crisp autumn day than apple picking at a local orchard? Located in Hendersonville, Justus Orchard has been growing North Carolina apples for four generations. Owned and operated by the Justus family, the orchard offers a wide variety of U-pick and pre-picked apples, as well as homemade jams, preserves, baking mixes and more.
After picking out the perfect apples, visitors can stop by the pond to see the ducks, visit the farm animals or shoot apples from the orchard’s apple cannon. The on-site Apple House Bakery also offers a variety of apple treats, including hot apple cider, apple fritters, apple cider doughnuts, candy and caramel apples, apple slushies, and the Justus family’s famous fried apple pies.

The last 3 years we have taken my brother to the orchard while he was suffering from cancer. He just passed in March this year. and believe it or not as we were around his bed the last time, he looked at my wife holding his hand and said (Im ready to go pick apples,are you?) My wife told him he was going to a better orchard than we could imagine.This will be our 1st trip with out him.

I have never been to an orchard but I’ve always wanted to. I eat an apple almost every day and they’re one of my favorite foods. They’re so versatile but best with peanut butter! I’m moving close to the area soon and would love to have some experiences in and around my new home. If I were to win I would come visit with my sister and nephews from Columbia, NC and give them the opportunity of an adventure away from our rural community.

I haven’t been to an orchard since I left Maine 10 years ago. I appreciate the opportunity.
We have missed apple picking since moving from the north. Would love to spend a day in the mountains in the orchard as we used to when our kids were little. It’s not only a stress release, but cider donuts and apples are the best for making you feel happy.
My wife and I hope to go apple picking together for the first time this fall. The COVID pandemic is really challenging us to seek out outside activities and with the weather cooling off, this would be a fun activity! And Justus has been highly recommended by many of our friends in the area.

We haven’t ever been to Justice orchard. It sounds wonderful. My husband is a farmer and loves all things North Carolina. My family is not from North Carolina so I am excited to see all the cool spots.
My Aunt “Slim” is enjoying her 103rd season on the 3rd Rock from the Sun. She is sharp as a tack and loves talking and telling how she did things in the old days. She has been to Denton, NC many times for the Old Timey Days doing homemade soap. Drying apples that she picked from the family farm is something that she has done in her long adventure on Planet Earth and she would be thrilled to give me instructions on how to dry fresh picked apples and see the process again.
For Aunt “Slim” to be involved from the picking to the drying I will take video through the apple orchard and share with her.

I remember when I was a kid, about 55 years ago and we lived across the road from the farm. They had all last a dozen different kinds of apple trees and in the fall we would climb them and just sit up in the tree gorging on fresh apples. It was my favorite season and I only fell out of a tree once and jumped back up so no one would see me. I guess you would call that a “wasted fall”.
