Walter G. Smith, 85, was Member of NCFB Board of Directors

Former North Carolina Farm Bureau Executive Board of Directors member Walter Graham Smith, of St. Pauls, passed away July 31. He served on the board from 1981-89 and was a past president of Robeson County Farm Bureau.

Smith, a third-generation farmer from Tolarsville, was 85 at the time of his passing. Smith served in the U.S. Army and was in the Korean War, earning the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars and one United Nations Service Medal.

He was born September 7, 1927 to the late Walter and Annie Graham Smith. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Shirley Hurtt Smith; three children, Walter G. Smith Jr.(Sherri), Judy Smith (Mal Owen) and Stevie Smith; three grandsons, Stuart Smith (Stephanie), Seth Smith, and Josh Smith; a great-grandson Stratton Smith; three sisters, Lois Livingston, Esther Arne, and Jane Carlyle (Cecil) and special friends the Helen and Jimmy Lowery family.

Smith was buried Aug. 3 in the cemetery at Tolarsville Baptist Church.
