Lake Appreciation Month

North Carolinians have a lot to celebrate in July. In 2014, Gov. Pat McCrory highlighted two important aspects of North Carolina, designating July as both Got to Be N.C. Agriculture Month and Lake Appreciation Month.

Agriculture and agribusiness comprise the top industry in North Carolina, providing more than $78 billion to the economy each year. For Got to Be N.C. Agriculture Month, the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services will focus on this importance, calling attention to some of the state’s top commodities, such as sweet potatoes, pork and Christmas trees, as well as the impact it has on consumer jobs and the state’s overall economy.

Lakes and reservoirs are some of North Carolina’s most important natural resources, providing energy, drinking water, irrigation, recreation and more. Lake Appreciation Month will encourage North Carolinians to take part in protecting them for future generations.
