The North Carolina Museum of History recently launched the Plott Hound Literary Circle, a virtual book club that readers across the state can join. Each year, the club partners with the North Carolina Writers’ Network to select a book with a strong connection to North Carolina, either through its author or subject matter. Over the following months, the club shares resources for readers to use on their own or with their book clubs.

The experience then wraps up in the spring, when the museum welcomes the author for a virtual book talk. The first book selection was Happy Land by Dolen Perkins-Valdez. Set in the hills of western North Carolina, the novel explores themes of family legacy, land ownership, and the ties between place and identity.
